Avalon's answer to the World Cup octopus 'Paul'?
Recently at Avalon we have discovered a new invention that is not only similar to Paul the octopus and his match predictions but may even rival him for sheer ingenuity. We have named it 'Avalon's weather prediciton paper'.
This invention consists of a piece of A4 paper hanging freely from a string at the front of our reception desk. On one side the paper reads 'its raining' and on the other 'its not raining'. Each day the paper sways until it finally rests. Which ever side of the paper is facing North this is the paper's forecast for the day. Simple? yes. Wrong? Never. Since our invention has been put into practice the 'weather prediction paper' has yet to deliver a wrong weather forecast.
An argument was brought up against our forecast system by a cynical guest who seems to be wary of change within the weather forcasting methods.

"How can a business organisation rely solely on a piece of paper for the weather predicition each day? And considering it has only two outcomes, raining and not raining, it is not an accurate forecast" he stated with a condescending smile.

So this is our case against him.
You see our guest must not have realised that in Ireland it genuinly either rains or it doesn't. So it is 50/50 for our 'weather prediction paper' to get it correct. Now, one might think eventually the paper will get it wrong. Well, considering our in-depth analysis of its predictions over the past Summer months, the 'predidcition paper' has proved to be very reliable.
So if you are coming to Dublin, the weather prediction paper will give you an idea of the attire you must bring.

A clean, friendly and cheap hostel with its very own answer to Paul the octopus, be sure to choose Avalon House as your place of residence in Dublin.

Farewell backpackers!

PS. If the paper brakes down or decides to retire. We always have the not-so-reliable world wide web to fall back on...

little known fact

Meet Herman Gooble, he invented the cat in 1961, having already had moderate success with the pet rock, and tamagotchi. he decided people would enjoy having a small hairy animal, that they would be forced to take care of day and night, for up to ten years. he thought that this would be popular with Japanese business men and cosmopolitan types. and gosh he was right, the "cat" was a huge success, to date more than 1000 cats have been sold worldwide making them almost as successful as the "dog" phenomenon. scientists reckon that one day in the future cats may actually replace computers in the home, becoming a must-have modern comfort.

till then you can enjoy all the wonders a cat has to offer at dublins premier cat expo.

Top winning pedigree cats in Ireland (North and South) competing for the overall title of Supreme Cat 2010, plus some handsome non pedigree cats.
Open to the public from 12MD, admission adults €5.00, junior/senior €3.00

I LOVE AVALON!!

Here's the lucky winner of the March 'I Love Avalon' competition. Lucia Hudson-Evans won a free night for 2 in the luxurious double ensuite room at Avalon after she took this photo in her garden with the lifesize replica of the Taj Mahal built from matchsticks.
The Taj Mahal, which pales in comparison to the architectural grandeur of Avalon House, was built after an Indian King stayed at Avalon in 1992 and was so impressed by his stay he built a replica in Agra when he got home.

feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeestival
if your planning a trip to dublin this summer, it'd be worth your while to book one of many many many festivals. its a well known fact that the first festival was invented by accident by dave o'brien in 1948, in his shed in co. mayo. it is said he was attempting to cure children afflicted with profound deafness and blindness, but in his experiments he stumbled apon a method of applying extreme ammounts of noise and visuals to the general public.dave was considerably deppressed at his failure and promptly emmigrated to soviet russia where he is now the owner of a unsuccesful novelty underwear shop.

but we irish took to this 'festival' like nobody else. now were the only country in the world legally allowed to have 'festivals' everyone else can only have crap parties (which they call festivals, but they're not fooling anyone)

here is a list of some of the only festivals in the whole world
