Renovations!
We've just finished repainting all our rooms and next week we are putting down brand new carpets in all the rooms and hallways in the hostel. Work is starting on Thursday 6th Spetember and will be finished by the following Thursday. Thanks for everyone's help and understanding while the work is going on - we are trying to keep any disruption to a minimum. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail us at info@avalon-house.ie
Keep the photographs coming for the competition - we want to get as many as possible up in the rooms and around the hostel!
Unfortunately our Tango classes have come to an end - thanks Jose for teaching them all summer and to all the guests who took part. We'll keep you posted on upcoming entertainment and events.

Just to let you know that our free Tango classes are on every evening in Avalon House @ 7.00pm with Jose from Argentina - classes are running until the end of August. If you're staying with us during that time be sure to join in!
Also this Monday night(27th August) @ 8.00pm there is a free live concert with the singer/songwriter 'Zapater' from Spain.

Avalon's photo competition

We are running a great photo competition at the moment in Avalon. You can send your entries by e-mail or post or if you are staying with us we can take them from your digital camera at reception. The prize is free accommodation for 2 people for a weekend at Avalon House. We have run the competition since March - here's a couple of photos of previous winners:

Winning photos will be on display in the hostel and you may have your photo's immortalised in one of our rooms. We will try and print and display as many entries as possible. If you want to advertise you details so other guests can contact you in relation to your photographs let us know when you send in the photos and we'll put you in the frame. Good luck!

AUGUST NEWS!
Avalon is humming away and despite the rain everyone is enjoying the summer. There has been a lot of work going on this summer - we've repainted the whole building and we're putting in new carpets throughout the building so the House will be even better!
We've had a lot of interesting entertainment in the last few months. Free tango classes every night until the end of August with Jose our resident teacher from Argentina. We have had Irish dancing classes with another Jose from Spain, a 30 piece choir from the UK, clowns, guitarists, double bassists, mandolin players and loads more. If you're coming to Avalon be sure to see if there is anyone performing - they're well worth seeing.
Dublin is heaving with festivals at the moment - be sure to check out the Dun Laoghaire World Music festival from 24-27 August - it's a fantastic festival and most of it is free. Check out http://www.festivalofworldcultures.com for more details.
The Diversions festival in Temple Bar have lots of free events until the end of August - for more check http://www.templebar.ie/home_nav_2_t_2.html
Check out the temporary sand sculptures at Dublin Castle until 31st August.
Gigwise - theres so much in the next few weeks - Foo Fighters, Damien Rice, Kaiser Chiefs, Fratellis - all playing Marlay Park next week. There's the Electric Picnic - the best festival ever - the week after. If you prefer opera the Dublin Opera Festival is on the first week in September.
