or it will be!, avalon in assosiation with DUBLIN BEST HOSTELS will be attempting the world record for most people in one bunk bed. because thats us, we live on edge, we push the limits. we don't wanna be some run of the mill check you in check you out kind of hostel, we wanna be the blow your mind, psych you out kind of hostel, the cool hostel all the other hostels wanna hang out with. this hostel gets the girls... or guys?, or equally attractive and popular lady hostels???

BLIZZARD OF THE CENTURY!!


The Avalon team here, contacting you via the wonder of wireless intercommunications technology. Buses have been cancelled, airports closed, all transport has been reduced to polar bear and/or dog sleigh. Although every inch of Dublin is now covered in ice, and many people have been left trapped in their homes, or worse the hostel they're staying in, there has been room for fun.



Dubliners have taken to leaving their cars at home, and simply sneezing in the opposite direction to where they need to travel, using simply the force of a single sneeze, the average chartered accountant can travel up to 25mph sliding on the ice.
This saves on petrol and is much kinder to the environment than the rocket packs generally used by commuting businessmen in the Dublin financial district.

Christmas madness coming soon: Piggy flu interruptus
Well, the much anticipated Christmas party shenanigans footage is currently under production; and boy, we have a hell of a story to tell. Though you are going to have to wait a little while longer, as our master teller of tales has been struck down with piggy flu and is currently in quarantine. On a more blithesome note however, the rest of the staff are doing just fine, and if truth be told, we are rather enjoyoing not having the "word-smith" around for a while. We have been somewhat peeved lately at our impoverished monosyllabic articulations being constantly criticised by our resident, loose-lipped, garrulous drivel speaking devil of a ship-mate.

It's time I brought this tirade of abuse to a close, before I say too much. Needless to say, our babbling, chatterbox of a monkey, will be in touch soon.

remember remember the ..... something of ..... eh something????
HAPPY MOVEMBER EVERYBODY - yes if your lucky enough to be traveling to Ireland, specifically Dublin in the coming weeks, prepare your self for a national obsession. the misplaced eyebrow the fabled face furniture, the lip tickler or moustache, yes here in dublin the mens cancer awareness month is celebrated with every grown man in Dublin attempting to grow the manliest of man plumage, moustaches of all shapes and sizes will be worn with pride, culminating in several gala events at the end of the month. i my self will be joining the ranks of FACEHAWKS the avalon receptions movember team. i'm putting many man-hours into man-stache growing on my man face, here's proof of an earlyer attempt.



in other news, not content with simply being the greatest hostel in Dublin, we decided to bribe several prominent leaders of the hospitality underworld so we could receive the highly coveted IHH (independent hostels Ireland) best city hostel award 2009( i'm kidding of course... we only bribed one person!!)

Our Birthday celebrations

We celebrated both Avalon and hostelworld's birthday by drinking copious amounts of alcohol - 50 litres of Mary's Magic Mixture punch, hundreds of beers and a magnum of champagne were consumed in the confusion. Thanks to everyone for helping us get rid of the vast alcohol surplus.
We are now 18 and feeling all grown up.....

On another note, our ever adventurous receptionist, Claire, has just returned from the Free Travel Ireland challenge completing a week's holiday around Ireland without spending a cent.

18 years have passed since the hallowed doors of Avalon House opened. Those who were in nappies (diapers for our American friends) when we opened are now of legal drinking age (in Ireland anyway). We will be celebrating our long awaited birthday next Friday 14th August in the true Irish 18th birthday fashion - by drinking large amounts of alcohol. Ours is not the only birthday this year - Hostelworld hit the big 10 years old this year. Avalon House was one of the very first hostels to work with them all those years ago and they haven't forgotten us so they are joining us for the party (but we won't let them drink....)
If you're staying with us on the night ask at reception whats happening and join in the celebrations.

We've introduced video to the website and our talented, banana loving receptionists have made a charming little video guide of how to get to Avalon from the airport. Check it out on out our homepage. We hope to have more banana adventures soon. Keep watching this space for more.

As you all may or may not know, we have various ways for guests to have a free night at Avalon. If you are a performer you can get a free night for entertaining our guests. We've had singers, dancers, masseurs, jugglers, choirs, statues, magicians, and even a transvestite Kate Bush impresario. Now there is something for those without such marvellous talents -

We have a monthly photography competition - enter your best shot - a winner is picked each month and wins a free night at the Avalon. The photos are also printed, framed and hung in the hostel guaranteeing you fame and fortune...... Email your entries to info@avalon-house.ie
